Coventry Council Applies for 3G Pitch at Woodlands Site

Coventry City Council has applied for planning permission to create a new all-weather football pitch on the site of the former Woodlands School.

The 3G pitch was approved in principle in 2022, when planning permission was granted to transform the former all-boys school into a facility providing additional SEND capacity for the city.

The latest application fills in the detail such as the pitch design, floodlighting, drainage, and ecology work.

Refurbished changing rooms and new toilets are also planned as part of the development.

The whole scheme is set to cost more than £1m and will be paid for through a mixture of Football Foundation funding and Section 106 money – developer contributions to support local communities – and, if approved, work could start in 2027.

Councillor Kamran Caan, Coventry City Council’s Cabinet Member for Sport and Public Health, welcomed the application.

He said:

“This is set to be an excellent addition for the local community and sports players across the city and is a key part of the playing pitch and outdoor sports strategy for the city.”
