A Light In The Dark: Coventry Children’s Charity Receives £1,500 Donation

The charity, located near Barratt Homes’ Pickford Gate development, has received the contribution from the leading housebuilder to support families by providing provisions so that they can focus on enjoying their time together.

Sarah Robertson, Chair of Rosie’s Rainbow Pantry, said:

The charity was established as a legacy to my niece, Rosie Abbot; she sadly passed away after an incredible five-year battle with brain tumours when she was 15. Rosie’s mum, Louise, started the charity just six months after she died.

We were fortunate to have a strong network of family and friends who helped ensure that the fridge freezer and cupboards remained well stocked, but not all families have this support.

Barratt Homes’ donation will go directly towards supporting these families and we are incredibly grateful for their kindness.

Rosie was the winner of The Pride of Coventry and Warwickshire’s Child of Courage award in 2015 and won BBC Radio 1’s Teen Hero Award in 2015. She spearheaded multiple fundraising campaigns whilst battling cancer and managed to raise over £20,000 for multiple charities.

Sarah continued:

Rosie's Rainbow Pantry offers a food shop when a child is receiving critical end-of-life care. It's from this point the support starts, for a maximum of six months or six shops (whichever is sooner), and this period includes support after the child has passed away.

Each year, we hold an Annual Charity ball on Rosie's anniversary, to raise vital funds that allow us to keep supporting families up and down the UK. Last year we supported over 100 families nationwide. In addition, we also have an annual Golf Day plus many events spearheaded by our supporters.

In the last year, our supporters have held a Christmas Raffle and Bauble painting event, a 'Rainbow Day' at a local Children's Day Nursery and have run the London Marathon.

Barratt Homes’ donation was made as part of its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is run by its parent company, Barratt Redrow. It is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the areas in which the housebuilder operates.

The Barratt Redrow Foundation is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2026. Since its launch, it has committed £20 million to charities and good causes, supported over 2,000 different charities and is estimated to have directly impacted 100,000 young people each year.

Adrian Evans, Managing Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said:

We are very proud to help continue Rosie’s legacy with this donation. These families are facing the hardest time of their lives and anything that we can do to help lessen how difficult that situation must be, we are happy to support.

We hope that the charity can continue to provide support for families across the UK and that Rosie can continue to inspire people to support those in need.
